Little Red Dot (2015)

Art Projects

The use of the batman icon is a subtle reference to how Western popular culture has become a big part of Singaporean culture.

The design was done for Singapore homeware producer Supermama, who commissioned 50 local creatives to produce a graphic for a porcelain “red dot” in commemoration of SG50. Our concept is inspired by the harmonious multi-racial and religious state of our Little Red Dot. We merged traditional masks from Chinese, Indian and Malay cultures with an iconic religious building of the corresponding race. As a tongue-in-cheek reference, we chose the Batman mask—combined with St Andrew’s Cathedral—to represent the integrated Caucasian community in Singapore.
