Form, material, and meaning in quiet balance

Opulent Developments

2022

Ikigai is a boutique condominium tucked away from the bustle of Novena, designed for a discerning, design-savvy audience. Rooted in the Japanese concept of “a life purpose of bliss,” the project brings together shodō artist Tomoko Kawao and architect Yip Yuen Hong to create a quiet, intentional design language.
With no showroom during the pandemic, the Ikigai book and website became the main sales experience. We translated architecture into print—using textures, finishes, and hand-drawn illustrations to showcase spaces. A specially sourced cover from Korea echoes the charred wood façade, reflecting the architect’s belief in the authenticity of raw materials.
The website extends this experience into digital form, serving as a key touchpoint for buyers. Designed as a guided journey, it mirrors the calm, contemplative nature of Ikigai—inviting users to explore the development through a seamless blend of imagery, narrative, and interaction.
