Launched by Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat, Sanctuary and Stronghold are a set of 2 books marking SGH’s Bicentennial. Designed as a matched set, each cover offers a glimpse into its content—Volume 1 tracing SGH’s historical arc, Volume 2 featuring 26 personal stories shaped by its enduring presence.
The design is led by bold typography: Volume 1’s cover counts the hospital’s significant years, while Volume 2 features the names of the 26 individuals interviewed. Both sit in a thin slipcase, echoing their inner content. The paired layout reflects harmony, continuity, and shared institutional memory.
Though understated in tone—honouring the hospital’s humility—the design carries quiet elegance. A glossy black hotstamp along the spine adds refinement, while vibrant book spines inject warmth and life. Together, the set becomes a respectful, meaningful tribute to SGH’s 200 years of service and humanity.
